1 Corinthians 13
Today we will be coming back to the theme of this year’s UN World Interfaith Harmony Week: I choose civility: listening, caring, engaging. And as it happens, the lectionary has given us the famous reading from 1 Corinthians 13, that we often read at weddings. But this is not a wedding reading: it is a reading about what is absolutely essential for Christian communities. It is not right belief (because that is unsure). It is not right worship, or even right action (because we’re really not sure what those are, either, given our diversity). The one essential is love for one another; and civility and respect are foundations for loving relationships.
