KidSpace happens every Sunday during the 10:30 am worship service. Children are invited to join the KidSpace team during the passing of the peace. We welcome children aged 3 years old to Grade 9

KidSpace uses an approach called Universal Design for Spiritual Formation, or UDSF. This means that we recognise that children learn, communicate and experience faith in different ways. As leaders, we adapt our teaching so that every child has opportunities to participate, regardless of their age, ability,  background or level of faith.

This approach means that KidSpace is not simply a place where children are taught Bible stories. It is a space where they can ask questions, be creative, move, talk, listen, reflect and discover what faith might mean in their own lives.

OUR SESSION FOLLOW FOUR SIMPLE STAGES

  • ENCOUNTER

    Encounter is where we begin with a Bible story. We introduce a spiritual concept through a child friendly version of Scripture, allowing children to hear and experience the biblical narrative.

  • EXPLORE

    Explore gives us the opportunity to talk about what we have heard. We unpack the story together and think about how its themes connect with our own lives, experiences and communities. There is no expectation that every child will respond in exactly the same way. Some children love talking and sharing their ideas, while others prefer to listen and think.

  • EXPRESS

    That leads us to Express. Through art and creative activities, children can respond to what they have explored without needing to demonstrate their understanding by answering questions aloud. A drawing, painting or self portrait can sometimes communicate something that words cannot.

  • EMBODY

    Finally, we Embody what we are learning through movement. Children are not expected to sit still and absorb information for an entire session. Movement gives them the opportunity to physically engage with the theme, and our leaders use movement breaks whenever the children need them.
