CHRISTMAS SERVICES AT KNOX UNITED
LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE
ORDER OF SERVICE
Sunday, December 21 • 4:30–5:30 pm
Knox Sanctuary
At sunset on the Winter Solstice
Gather with us as the sun sets on the longest night of the year, for a contemplative solstice ceremony. Together in the Sanctuary, we’ll gather by candle light in community to share music, quiet reflection, and to participate in a fire ritual to observe this sacred time of transition.
Come as you are, breathe with community, and mark this threshold moment with warmth and intention.
(Dress warmly as part of the service will be outside).
All are welcome.
CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES
Christmas Eve at Knox is all about gathering around music, story, and community, the kind of night where familiar carols wrap around you like a well-loved blanket and new memories find their place alongside old ones. Whether you’ve been coming to Knox for decades or you’re considering walking through our doors for the first time, you’re warmly invited to be part of this holy night.
In the evening, the church slowly fills with candlelight and song. At 7:00 p.m., our candlelight service gathers all ages around carols, readings, and the glow of shared candles.
At 11:00 p.m., we return to the sanctuary for a later candlelight and communion service, quieter, more contemplative, rich with music that carries the depth and beauty of the night.
Music is at the heart of the services. Choir, instruments, and congregational singing will shape the evening, from the first notes of the prelude to the final carol. Doors open one hour before each service, and a live musical prelude begins 30 minutes beforehand, so you’re welcome to come early, settle in, and let the music prepare your heart.
If Knox has been “your church” for years and years, these services are a chance to step back into the rhythms you know by heart, the same pews, the same carols, the same story told in new ways. And as you plan your Christmas Eve, consider who you might invite to share it with you: a neighbour, a family member, a friend who could use a place to rest, sing, and belong. Christmas Eve is always better when the circle gets a little wider.
