First Third Ministry Coordinator

Job Description

Overview

The First Third Ministry Coordinator position is for the development, planning, administration and nurturing of programs for congregants, ages 0-35, including the Sunday morning Kidspace program for ages 3-18. This position offers a flexible work environment and flexible hours.

Rate: $21-25/hr
Hours: Average 10 per week (3 hours on Sundays)

Specific Duties

  • Advocate for the first third population (including children and youth) in the planning and visioning of Knox
  • Ensure Kidspace is a warm and welcoming space for all children and volunteers
  • Develop (in consultation with ministry team and Kidspace volunteers) an annual calendar for Kidspace Sunday mornings and other First Third events
  • Develop, train, utilize and support volunteers in the Kidspace program
  • Maintain and organize Kidspace storage space
  • Order curriculum and supplies as needed (in consultation with ministry team)
  • Organize special events at least quarterly for children and parents, and First Third groups
  • Organize leader training/retreats at least once per year
  • Maintain children and parent information contained on registration forms and updated in Planning Centre.
  • Prepare a weekly paragraph to parents on upcoming events and highlights from lessons and times together for the Knox weekly email
  • Develop registration forms and procedures
  • Identify and develop a plan for Knox to follow the UCC “Plan to Protect” program
  • Make connections with the Regional First Third Ministry Team (Chinook Winds Region) to stay up to date on regional events, activities and workshops.
  • Ensure current police checks of Kidspace staff and volunteers are completed with M&P
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the minister (Rev. Sheena Trotter-Dennis)
  • Communicate regularly with Kidspace volunteers and First Third participants
  • Develop relationships with other teams at Knox; make connections for First Third to be involved in outreach, congregational care and worship
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • An openness to work in a progressive, downtown, affirming congregation
  • An agreement to Knox’s values and vision (see attached)
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Knowledge of Planning Centre is helpful
  • Knowledge of Google Drive is helpful
  • While United Church membership is not required, some familiarity with the United Church and United Church theology is desirable
  • A recent vulnerable sector police check.
